Shrines

I found these photographs under my bed at home on a scratched up disc, I thought there was no hope but I managed to salvage them. They were taken when I was about 16 in the kitchen (!) I was really interested in Mexican shrines, Catholic prayer cards, Candles and Saints. Although I generally feel embarrassed by work from a long time ago, I actually still quite like these, I enjoy the hazyness and my youthful good looks ( I kid) . I have a whole host of other photographs from this time that will be making an appearance sometime soon!

Sloane Rangers part 2

1.Untitled, Andre Butzer, 2007
2&3. Sections of You are being Lied to, Kristine Roepstorff, 2002
4&5. Sections of Pretentious Crap, Zhivago Duncan, 2010-2011
6. Silence, Stefan Kurten, 2001
7. The Handsome Family, Stefan Kurten, 2004

On Saturday I visited the Saatchi, the first floor was a little dull however, on reaching the top floor there were masses of treats to be found !
I am now completely obsessed with Stefan Kurten, photographs seem to flatten his paintings. In reality they are so wonderful, silence reminds me of the barbican conservatory and indeed, they all have that feeling of late 1960s, early 1970s suburban life. Looking out of the window of my bedroom, I realise my view is not dissimilar to one of Kurten's paintings. I choose my room for its amazing view. It looks over the entire squares gardens and at the far end is a glimpse of a block of flats, it is a bizarre mish mash but its what I enjoy most about living here.

Gardens seem to be playing a big part in my life at the moment, I'm feeling inspired by all things 70s: allotments, the good life, mike leigh films & campervans. I'm longing to spend more time outdoors painting and sewing and gardening ! Roll on summertime .

A few snaps from my recent trip home. Cornwall was lovely, I drank lots of ginger beer, went on walks, baked cakes and generally just enjoyed being at home. Even the air smells better (like salt water!) It was my last trip to my mums house as she is moving to pastures new, next time I visit I will get to explore somewhere new!

Clogging about.

I purchased some clogs, they are arrived today and are wonderful; they make such a great clopping sound when I walk. Teamed them with my favourite Topshop jeans and a stripy dress I found in my mums wardrobe last time I was home. So So sad I missed the Marni launch at H&M today, really wanted that funny conical hat ! Alas I was cooped up in university, writing and thinking about my dissertation (I have to hand in a proposal in May, EK!). I can't wait for spring so I can study outside once more !

Blurs of Matthew Miller AW1213

The Matthew Miller show completely caught me off guard. Firstly sitting opposite Amir Kahn at a fashion week show is a shock (however finally a reason to text dad something about fashion week). Looking down at the handout I discover digital links to further inform us of the origins and creations of the garments. Rapidly trying to scan in the digital barcodes I become distracted by the bio. 'STOKE ON TRENT!' I scream at my friend next to me having actually never revealed to her that Stoke is where I am from, not just 'oh somewhere near manchester' . Matthew Miller is from my home city, at which moment the first model walked out. The collection was fascinating. Each piece completely individual, an array of prints evolved from research into various london surfaces, however the collection had such strong coherence. The multicolored suit was my ultimate win. Not only did this collection inspire and excite me, I left with such a strong sense of Pride. A collection and show all about discovery, a true 'treasure map for the modern man'.
